Mae dos Porbes HS emerges champs

MARGAO, AUG 31 — Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem emerged Salcete Taluka Champions in the Under 17 Mini Secondary Mini School football as they overcame Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna 2-1 in an exciting final played at Manora Grounds, Raia on Sunday.
Both the teams retired at lemon break without scoring.
Both Regina and Mae dos Pobres High School gauged the strengths of either attacks. Due to midfield action there were few scoring chances in the first half.
The pace of the match picked up in the second half, as both the teams lifted their game to a higher standard with quick passes.
Regina finally broke the deadlock following a swift counter attack when striker Ashley Fernandes broke free and put the ball to the far corner of the net.
Regina Martyrum backfired when stopper back Arvind Fernandes was shifted to wing back by physical educational teacher as their opponents took full advantage and called the shoots as the rival defense could not sustain the pressure.
Mae do Pobres High School equlised though Striker Glane Dias who headed the ball into the nets through a floater from his colleague.
Nuvem School kept the momentum on and increased the level to 2-1 though striker Nicholas Fernandes.
Earlier referee ejected Mae Dos Pobres High School, Clinton Pereira after he picked up second yellow card for his unsporting behaviour.
Joaquim Da Costa, Headmaster of Marina English High School, Verna was the chief guest and distributed the certificates.

Mae Dos Pobres High School, Nuvem, defeated Our Lady of Rosary High School, Mandrem, 2-0 to emerge champions in the finals of 3rd All-Goa inter-school Under-17 boys lightning football tournament for Cyril Alvares memorial rolling trophy at Sarzopra ground.
Mae dos Pobres won the trophy for third consecutive year. The tournament was organised by Sarzora Sports Club. In all, 16 schools participated.
The winners received Rs 4,000 and a rolling trophy.

St Anthony’s Club, Colva downed Navelim Sporting Club 3-0 via the tie-breaker to clinch the 33rd All Goa Cana Benaulim Football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association in the finals at St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim on Sunday.
Both St Anthony and Navelim started on a dull note. However, Navelim made a few attempts at the rival citadel with Alvito Colaco’ snap shot sailing over the cross bar.
St Anthony nearly broke the deadlock but Cedric Fernandes try was well blocked by the Navelim goalkeeper Joanathan Faleiro.
As the match was nearing its end, both teams piled up pressure and their efforts did not bare fruits.
With regulation time ending in a stalemate, the tie-breaker was brought into play and St Anthony held on to their nerves to emerge victorious.
St Anthony scored through Nelson Borges, Francis Silva and Clyde Pacheco while Domnic Fernandes, Sony Colaco and Alvito Colaco’ attempts were saved by make-shift goalkeeper Denzil Coutinho.
St Anthony were richer by Rs 25,000 while Navelim had to settle for Rs 20,000.
Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco presented his personal award of Rs 5,000 to St Anthony’s goalkeeper Denzil for his brilliant performance.
Following prizes were awarded: First Scorer of the final - Nelson Gomes, St Anthony;
Best defender of the final - Domnic Fernandes, Navelim SC; Best disciplined team - Parish Youth, Nuvem; Best goalkeeper of the final - Joao Falcao, St Anthony; Man-of-the final - Domnic Cabral, Navelim SC; Best midfielder of the final -Vicky Fernandes, St Anthony; Promising player of the tournament - Venson Figuereido, Sporting Club of Colva; Best defender of the tournament - Malcom Fernandes, Betalbatim Sporting Club; Up coming player of Benaulim - Caridade Rebello, Cana Benaulim Sporting Club.
Cyril Fernandes a poet of Benaulim was felicitated by Francisco Sardinha.
Francisco Sardinha MP was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco presided. Earlier, Agnelo Fernandes, President of Cana Benaulim Sporting Association welcomed. Joseph Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.

Pateapur win Borges trophy
PANJIM (HSD) -- Pateapur beat Igorjetbhat 5-4 via the tie-breaker to win the finals of Antonio Borges memorial rolling trophy organised by Parish Youth, Nuvem on Monday.
Pateapur took the lead in the 10th minute of the match thought Rosario Dias.
Remy Colaco of Igorjebhat equalised in the dying minutes.
In the tie-breaker, Pateapur kept their cool to pip Igorjetbhat 5-4.
Pausilipo Dourado was the chief guest. Francis Mascarenhas was the guest of honour and gave away the prizes. Remy Colaco, SAG coach and Guadalupe Dias were felicitated.

Wilred Leisure in semis

Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim made it to the semi-final of Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Navelim Sporting Club with a 5-4 victory over Parish Youth, Nuvem at Rosary ground, Navelim on Thursday. The teams were tied 1-1 art the end of regulation time.
Queitero Pango put Parish Youth ahead in the 17th minute.
Wilred were rewarded midway in the second session when Agnelo Martins bulged the net leaving the Parish Youth goalkeeper dazed.
Alvito Pereira of Parish Youth was adjudged man-of-the match.
In the tie-breaker, Seby Martins, Joao Fernandes, Micky Cardozo and Agnelo Martins were on target for Parish Youth, Nuvem.
